MARITAL THERAPY

“My experience with marital therapy started out with some apprehension. Although I was the one to suggest it when I realized matters were beyond resolution in our marriage, I was not sure how it would help us reverse a situation that had been worsening for over a decade.

I am surprised how soon the therapy, inclusive of our joint and individual sessions, has helped bridge some of the distance. As a couple we had stopped verbal communication for several months. This resumed soon after the first session. Gradually the physical closeness has also increased without any awkwardness between us. We are still working towards attaining emotional reliance on one another and the progress we make during each of our joint sessions gives me the hope that we will get there eventually.

The mental blocks fall away bit by bit and we have learnt techniques that help us to be more introspective and understanding of each others’ needs and intentions. I have personally faced some uncomfortable truths about myself and learnt to work my way with them.

Reema has been extremely easy to work with. In fact she got my husband to open up and express his feelings, a concept hitherto alien to him.

She comes prepared with her targets for each session with us, individually or joint sessions, and the activities she plans invariably elicit the desired response. She is observant of the minutest nuances in our behavior and has helped me see myself for who I really am.

I relate to Reema as a therapist and also as a woman. I appreciate the fact that she shares her personal experiences and thoughts to put me at ease when she senses I’m about to clam up. There is a great deal I have learnt from the therapy sessions. My biggest achievement I believe is to be able to see the ‘bigger’ picture”.

“As a journalist who often reports on health and wellness, I am always on the look-out for medical professionals who are able to articulate their work in lay-man’s terms. And that’s exactly what you get with Reema Shah.

When I approached Reema she had never before been interviewed or worked with anyone from the media. Yet, once the brief was given to her, she seemed to be a complete natural. She was able to break-down complex psychological issues in a language that my readers would be able to follow. What’s more she wasn’t looking to turn the spotlight on her self; she just wanted to educate the readers about certain pressing mental issues. And despite the fact that she was given a very tight deadline, she delivered right on time!

Over the years, I’ve worked with her on various articles, and always found that her articles garner a great deal of interest as she goes beyond the brief and is able to get readers thinking, which is exactly what a wellness feature is meant to do.”

“As a former journalist of the Hindustan Times, I worked with Reema Shah on several stories that required her expertise. What distinguishes Shah from her contemporaries is that rather lapse into psychological jargon while explaining a situation, she gets to the core of the matter quickly and by using the simplest language. Shah also forces you to consider both sides of a scenario instead of feeding you with information that is likely to please you, but will do you more harm in the long term. Shah’s USP is that she brings clarity to her practice and offers constructive solutions.”

How psychological counseling helps excercise and diet regimes

Hi, I am Avantika Shah, a clinical & sports nutritionist and fitness consultant who helps people and professional athletes reach their nutrition, fitness and performance oriented goals.

My approach towards my clients was always to learn their dietary and lifestyle habits, explain the role of nutrients and then plan a diet to suit their requirements.

Like other health professionals I always believed in the fact if you are doing everything else right – an exercise regimen, consistent sleep patterns, it is only a lack of proper nutrition that will impede your performance and stop you from reaching your athletic or personal fitness goals.

Well I was wrong here, and realized it when a 12-year-old athlete stepped into my clinic for sports nutrition consultation in November 2011.

We sat down together understanding her training protocol, her dietary habits and then like my regular approach I planned a diet for her.

The diet of course gave her results, her endurance and the timing for the sport improved during her practice session but essentially she failed to perform in competitions.

I failed to comprehend with the fact that when she had the perfect recipe for success, a good training regime a sound dietary program, why did she lack the ability to perform.

In one of my follow up sessions I figured out that she was not in a very strong and positive emotional and mental state of mind to excel during the competition.

Yes here was my answer I soon understood that true good health is not a condition that is merely free of adverse symptoms, it’s a state of dynamic physical as well as mental well being,.

That’s when Dr. Reema Shah came to my rescue. I explained the importance of mental strengthening to the client and her guardian.

Here in Dr Reema helped her prioritizeand focus on goal settings, including setting small reasonable goals and in turn work a way towards long-term goals.

Because that’s what this is truly about – treating the whole you!

After two sessions with Dr. Reema she showed tremendous improvement, and came to my clinic displaying her medals.

I have become aware that if you want true good health,

the initial conversation in my therapy could very well be the turning point in your life !!!

Are you currently struggling to lose weight? Do you exercise regularly but still struggle to shake the weight off? Have you hired a personal trainer but not seen results you’re looking for? The struggle to lose and maintain weight loss is a problem for millions of people worldwide.

But the solution may not be physical after all.

When embarking on a weight loss journey, people will often consult personal trainers and me. The trainers will devise customized fitness programs to help you achieve strength, flexibility, stamina, and promote fat loss. And me as a nutritionist will provide structured meal plans designed to help you shed the weight safely.

But nowhere in the mix of this is psychological coaching, when in fact; psychological issues can be a key factor in why people struggle to lose weight or even to excel in sports

Think about it if you follow the program to a “T” you will succeed. But the problem isn’t in the fitness program or the nutrition plan.

It’s the adherence to these programs and the psychological issues preventing adherence that can make or break your weight loss goals.

Are you an emotional eater in times of stress? Do you reach for a jar of biscuits or chips after a stressful day of work? Do you struggle finding the time to devote to yourself and fitting in workouts?

These are all psychological-related issues that can impact your weight loss or performance oriented goals but is rarely addressed by a traditional nutrition program.Dr Reema as an integral part of my Nutrition Therapy now, helps a lot of my fat loss clients and athletes dealing with such issues. And helps them channel their underlying stress in a more positive way. Addressing the psychological and behavioral issues of my patients during their nutrition program has helped them not only achieve their goals but also maintain a long-term success.

By finding a comprehensive fitness program that incorporates all three of these aspects together: diet, exercise, and mental coaching, you stand an even higher rate of success because you are addressing all of the key components of making a lifestyle change. The cohesiveness here is truly the key

I am fortunate to have found her. Also express my gratitude to God cause I am the chosen one to give people the gift of health in the true sense which wouldn’t be possible without the help of Dr. Reema.

Thank you doc.. And may god keep showering his blessings on you!

Lots of love and good luck.
